I have struggled with headaches for the better part of two decades. It took a long time to understand why I was getting them, and even longer to understand how I could best treat my headaches. I have never been a big fan of pills, and taking them to mask the symptoms of my headaches felt like slapping a band aid with minimal amounts of adhesive on it. They didn’t stick well and weren’t actually helping with the problem in the first place, but instead were just trying to cover it up.
Then I found physical therapy. I was originally sent to physical therapy to recover from an injury, but discovered that through PT I could successfully treat a wide range of issues I was having. Treating my headaches was one of them. This has been a game changer for me. Whether I have a tension headache, tight traps and neck muscles, have been clenching my jaw overnight, etc. I could still use the many treatments through physical therapy to address my headaches. Sometimes I get headaches that last days and don’t let up. No amount of drinking lots of water, getting enough rest, etc will help cut through the pain. What I can do is make an appointment to be dry needled, have manual therapy, maybe my vertebrae needs mobilized, any number of things can be done. The point is, there is an answer at physical therapy for this 20 year problem I’ve had. I will forever be a believer in physical therapy, and now I am nearly a spokesperson for using it to treat headaches.
The staff at Elite are all phenomenal people. They have such a heart for people and ensuring that they can provide the best treatment possible. I always felt that they listened to my concerns at each visit, made adjustments to treatments as necessary, and gave me good feedback about my home habits that could help benefit my treatment and progress too. I appreciate them all so much!
