I was at Elite Physical Therapy and Balance getting treatment for my lower back injury. When my therapist was doing the manual treatment, I would hold my breath due to the discomfort of the treatment. I just could not relax. My therapist, Deborah told me to try breathing in my nose and out through my mouth during the treatment. So I started to breathe this way and almost at once, I felt I could relax my muscles and the discomfort lessened.
Sometimes if a patient is having an intense reaction to touch due to pain, it can be difficult for a clinician to work on their muscles or assess exactly where their pain is originating from. Taking a few minutes to breath from the diaphragm can calm a patient’s reaction and allow a therapist to continue treatment.
“Something as simple as breathing correctly has helped me have less pain. It was truly amazing!”
When asked about her therapy, Jeanette Lapsley commented, “Thank you Shelbyville Elite Physical Therapy and Balance for helping me feel better and teaching me how to breathe!”
To our Shelbyville patient, Jeanette Lapsley; We are so proud of your wonderful progress in your therapy and we thank you for choosing Elite Physical Therapy for your PT!
