Friends, today we bring you a story of grit and determination from a close friend of ours, Christy Phillips. There really isn’t a better way to tell the story than from her own words. Christy, thank you in advance for having the courage to tell your story. We appreciate you unwavering spirit and positive attitude in the midst of your battle. Here is Christy’s story:
“My journey started over 35 years ago. As a high school student, I was diagnosed with severe rheumatoid arthritis. My life has been full of many challenges since that diagnosis. Not only has the RA itself cause major detriment to my body, so have the side effects of the medication used to treat it. Many bone fractures and surgeries have been along my journey. Many of my doctors say my medical history is equivalent to a set of encyclopedias. As my disease has progressed I have lost the ability to have a normal life. I am extremely limited with many physical activities when my RA is in its accelerated mode. My ability to maintain mobility is due to physical therapy. My ‘feel better’ comes from year round PT. Without it, I would be substantially limited. PT has always been my friend, but at this time, I am disabled due to the RA and sought early retirement because of it.
My goals through PT are to maintain mobility and strengthen areas of my body that have been greatly affected by my RA. My physical therapy motivates me to keep moving and be active. I am so thankful for it each and every day. I have limited to home bound on occasion but have been fortunate to have access to it locally at Elite. I refer people constantly. Elite stays very current with their approaches to therapy. They make me feel as if I have an extended family with them. My ‘peeps’ I call them! Elite helps me daily to overcome my boundaries with RA. They motivate me to not give in to the disease.”
Thanks again Christy for your boldness to share your story of your constant battle with rheumatoid arthritis. We are so thankful that you chose us here at Elite to fight with you. We love being able to serve your needs locally. Keep fighting to stay mobile.
