Alicia Mayes’ Spinal Fusion Recovery

Alicia Mayes loved being active. One day, she pushed herself a little too far in a forward bend while practicing yoga. Unfortunately, this injury led to complete loss of the disc between her L4 and L5 of her spine. Two years she has dealt with chronic pain and ultimately needed spinal fusion surgery. Now in recovery, she is working with the team at Elite Physical Therapy to reach her goal of being back to the full physical activity she misses such as jogging, yoga, cycling and hiking.

She says, “I am getting stronger each week. This gives me so much happiness because I have always been an active person. I played basketball in college. I have ran, cycled, hiked, and “yogied.” Elite is giving me a huge part of my life back.”

What does Alicia think of her therapist? “Fantastic! Ashley and Britta are very invested in my recovery. They are always concerned about my physical progress, but they also engage on a personal level. I feel I have gotten to know them and they are a part of my “family.” This helps with the healing. I feel positive energy!”

Thank you, Alicia, for letting us be part of your recovery and family!
